Traditional Thai Massage

Traditional Thai Massage is a holistic form of massage which stimulates all of our body systems with the interplay of various elements of yoga, acupressure and reflexology.

Thai Massage has been practised for over 2,500 years and uses a blend of techniques to achieve a state of deep relaxation in the body, mind and spirit. Thai Massage is an authentic healing art, a unique form of body therapy developed as a therapeutic method of healing to treat illnesses and to maintain health and well-being.

It is performed on a client who is fully clothed and lying on a floor mat. During a session, a practitioner guides the client through a series of passive stretches, using their hands, forearms, elbows, knees, and feet to compress and palpate the muscles of the body. Rhythmic rocking and pressure point techniques are used throughout the treatment to restore energy and bring the client to a state of relaxation.

It is the combination of energetic and physical techniques that makes Thai Massage unique and so effective. Thai Massage is a full-body treatment, starting at the feet and progressing up to the head.

The Bowen Therapy

Bowen is a holistic remedial body technique that works on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body and treats the whole person and aims to treat the cause of problems, rather than the symptoms. Bowen Therapy can be used to treat musculoskeletal or related neurological problems including acute sports injuries and chronic or organic conditions.

Bowen is performed on the superficial and deep fascia. The fascia, or soft tissue, is the part of the connective tissue that envelops, separates and influences every organ and tissue in the body. A Bowen treatment consists of sequences of small moves at varying pressures, each at a specific site on the body. Therapists use light, cross-fibre manoeuvres of muscle, tendon or ligament.

During the treatment the therapist may give the body time to respond to the treatment in 2 to 5 min periods. This resting period allows time for your body to respond to the treatment and for the necessary changes to occur in your body before commencing the next sequence of moves.

The Bowen technique is gentle and relaxing and does not use forceful manipulation. This makes it safe for people of all ages, from newborns to the elderly and for any musculoskeletal or related neuromuscular complaint.

Bowen Therapy helps the body’s own healing resources to achieve balance and harmony. This can result in rapid and often long-lasting relief from pain and discomfort. Benefits may be seen and measured after the first session.

A treatment will typically last between 30 minutes and one hour. It can be provided through a layer of light clothing, although you may be asked to remove heavy or thick garments.
